Sarnoff/AHA SURE Program

Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Foundation/American Heart Association
SURE Summer Undergraduate Research Program Collaboration

Motivated by a need to inspire young people to pursue science careers and to increase the diversity of scientists, the AHA and the Sarnoff Foundation partnered together on a summer 2024 undergraduate research program at Duke University and the University of Pennsylvania. This pilot program leveraged both the existing AHA SURE program infrastructure and funding with the Sarnoff Foundation’s mentorship structure to enable undergraduate students from underrepresented backgrounds to have an immersive summer research experience.

Once the awardees were selected, they were assigned an advisor from the Scientific Committee who monitored their research experience remotely. The 2024 Sarnoff/AHA SURE awardees will be offered the opportunity to present their projects at the Sarnoff 45th Annual Meeting Poster Session.
