Funding the Mission
| To share knowledge, his good fortune and to perpetuate the mentor-trainee research experience, Dr. Stanley J. Sarnoff established the Sarnoff Endowment as a way to spread his joy of exploration to those with open minds and hearts. |
- From the inception of the Foundation until his death in 1990, Dr. Stanley Sarnoff funded the Fellowship program with his own resources. In 1990, he willed a generous endowment to the Foundation. Interest from the endowment has funded the program since then.
- During the last decade alone the Sarnoff Foundation has expended funds to support personalized research experiences and life-long professional mentoring opportunities, yet its corpus remains intact. The ratio between the Foundation's program and administrative expenses has been well below industry average, year after year.
- The first Sarnoff Fellowship grant (1979-80) was $10,000.
- In 2009-10 it will cost over $40,000 for one medical student to participate in the Sarnoff Fellowship program.
- Because of the economic downturn affecting 501(c) (3) foundations, funds to support the flagship Fellowship program are tighter than ever.
